Human Rights Policy

Control-NI is committed to upholding the dignity, rights, and equality of every person we serve.

Our Commitment to Human Rights

At Control-NI, we believe that every individual has the right to live with dignity, independence, and freedom from discrimination. Our Environmental Control Systems (ECS) and assistive technology services are designed to support these fundamental rights.

We are committed to the principles of the Human Rights Act 1998, the Equality Act 2010, and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. These frameworks guide everything we do — from how we design our services to how we interact with clients, their families, and healthcare professionals.

Dignity and Autonomy

We recognise that dignity is central to wellbeing. Our services are designed to help people maintain control over their own lives and environment.

  • We respect every person's right to make choices about their own care and daily living.
  • We never make assumptions about what someone can or cannot do — we assess individual needs and abilities.
  • Our technology solutions are designed to increase personal autonomy, not create dependence on our services.
  • We treat all clients with respect, regardless of age, disability, health condition, or background.
Equality and Non-Discrimination

Control-NI is committed to equality of access and treatment. We do not discriminate on the basis of:

  • Disability or health condition
  • Age
  • Gender or gender identity
  • Race, ethnicity, or nationality
  • Religion or belief
  • Sexual orientation
  • Socioeconomic status or funding source

We ensure that our services are accessible to everyone who needs them, regardless of how they are funded — whether through NHS, HSC Trust, private funding, or charitable grants.

Accessibility as a Right

We view accessibility not as a privilege, but as a fundamental human right. Our work is rooted in the principle that everyone has the right to access their environment, communicate their needs, and participate fully in society.

  • We provide free home assessments and demonstrations so that cost is never a barrier to exploring solutions.
  • We help clients navigate funding options including NHS, HSC Trust, Disabled Facilities Grants, and Access to Work.
  • Our website and documentation are designed to meet WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards.
  • We adapt our communication style to meet individual needs — whether through spoken, written, or alternative communication methods.
Data Protection and Privacy

We respect every person's right to privacy. The information you share with us is handled with strict confidentiality and in full compliance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

  • We collect only the information necessary to provide our services.
  • We never share your personal data without your explicit consent, except where required by law.
  • You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data at any time.
  • For full details, please see our Privacy Policy.
Safeguarding and Protection

We take our safeguarding responsibilities seriously. If we ever have concerns about the safety or wellbeing of a vulnerable person, we follow established procedures and work with appropriate authorities.

  • All our staff undergo safeguarding training appropriate to their role.
  • We have clear policies for identifying and reporting safeguarding concerns.
  • We respect client confidentiality while fulfilling our duty of care to protect vulnerable individuals.
  • We cooperate fully with HSC Trusts, safeguarding boards, and other statutory bodies when required.
Complaints and Redress

If you feel that your rights have not been respected, we encourage you to let us know. We are committed to resolving complaints fairly, promptly, and transparently.

  • Complaints can be made by phone, email, or in writing.
  • We aim to acknowledge all complaints within 2 working days and provide a full response within 10 working days.
  • If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to escalate your complaint to the relevant regulatory body.
Legal Framework

Our Human Rights Policy is informed by the following legislation and international frameworks:

  • Human Rights Act 1998 — protecting the right to life, freedom from inhuman treatment, and respect for private and family life.
  • Equality Act 2010 — protecting against discrimination and promoting equal treatment.
  • UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities — recognising the rights to independent living, accessibility, and participation in society.
  • Data Protection Act 2018 / UK GDPR — protecting the right to privacy and data protection.
  • Health and Social Care (Reform) Act (Northern Ireland) 2022 — ensuring health and care services are person-centred and rights-based.
