Switch access and eye gaze technology are at the heart of Environmental Control Systems. They allow people with the most severe physical disabilities to operate computers, phones, TVs, lights, doors, and communication devices — using whatever movement they can reliably make.
Sip-and-Puff Switch
Operated by breathing in or out through a small tube. Ideal for people with high-level spinal cord injuries who have breath control but no hand or arm movement.
Best suited for: High SCI, MND (advanced), Locked-In Syndrome
Head / Cheek Switch
Activated by a small movement of the head, cheek, or any body part with reliable motion. Positioned wherever movement is most consistent for the user.
Best suited for: MND, Cerebral Palsy, MS, Muscular Dystrophy
Single Button Switch
Large, easy-to-press buttons in a range of sizes, activation forces, and colours. Can be operated by any body part — hand, fist, elbow, knee, or foot.
Best suited for: Arthritis, Stroke, Acquired Brain Injury, SCI
Joystick & Trackball
Adapted mouse controls for people who can manage directional movement but struggle with a standard mouse. Used with on-screen keyboards and computer access.
Best suited for: MS, Cerebral Palsy, Parkinson's, Tremor conditions
Eye Gaze Technology
Uses infrared cameras to track exactly where you are looking on a screen. Allows complete control of a computer, ECS, or communication device using only your eyes.
Best suited for: MND, Locked-In Syndrome, High SCI, Advanced Cerebral Palsy
Proximity & Sensor Switches
Detect minimal movement — a slight muscle twitch, eyebrow raise, or close proximity — without requiring any physical contact. Ultra-sensitive for those with very limited movement.
